(Continuing from "Fortress Whale")

A large light suddenly appeared within orbit of Radiant Garden. The space the light occupied seemed to twist, and then suddenly the everything snapped back into place and the light dissipated. In its place was a Gummi ship with a wrecked nose and two occupants.

Pierce had had his eyes shut for this. It took a moment before he opened them. His Library and current field instantly reset to their standard state. He looked out towards the world they were close to to confirm that his gambit had worked.

"Alright, we made it, Yugi. Welcome to Radiant Garden."

Yugi blinked the pink blotches out of his vision as he regained his bearings and finally let go of the console. His first instinct was to put a hand to the weight of the Millennium Puzzle; his second, to feel up the Duel Disk on his wrist. Neither was broken or missing, which was more than good.

That hadn't felt anything like the teleportation of the green circles. That'd been a smooth ride. This… not so much. He didn't really know if it was the difference between the two spells, or if the state of his battered ship had anything to do with it, but he rested his right arm against his stomach.

Next to him, the Pharaoh hovered. Are you alright?

"Hmm…" A bit of a disguised answer, since Brent couldn't hear the other half. Yugi wandered over closer to the front of the cockpit to get a good look.

"…Oh!" From this height, the castle was apparently far bigger than it seemed before, but it was definitely the same building. "Yeah, I've been here before. This is where we got the ship."

“Oh, you got the ship from Cid? Yeah… he's not gonna be happy about you damaging it so soon. Unfortunately, he’s also the only one I know of in town who can fix the ship. He’ll fix it either way - it’s a paid job, after all - but I'll still see if I can talk him down. You did get eaten by Monstro, after all.”

Brent stepped into the teleporter and beamed down to the marketplace. He immediately started his card game again, trying to get his mana going as early as possible - unlike in Monstro, he expected a fight here, and if he didn’t start now, he was liable to be dead when the Heartless decided to ambush them. He could probably get at least three or four turns in before they would walk into the Borough, where the little scums actually started spawning.

Game start. 3 Mountains, 1 Island, Weaver of Lightning, Make Mischief, Niblis of Dusk. Play Mountain and pass.

"Yeah…" Yugi trailed off as Brent disappeared, giving him a second of privacy to just lean over the console and breathe.

The Pharaoh's projection gave him a pointed look.

Yugi rolled his eyes. "No, really, Pharaoh, I'm fine."

If you say so.

A sigh. "Come on, let's get down there…" A few seconds later, Yugi was jogging through the marketplace after Brent.

Turn start. Draw Reduce to Ashes. Play Island and pass.

Brent actually didn't go straight for the Borough. Instead, he stopped at the weapons vendor. “‘Scuse me, do you have a sword I could buy?”

One purchase later, Brent was equipping a scabbard for the one-handed longsword he had just bought. Then he headed for the Borough.

Turn start. Draw Mountain. Play Mountain, tap all Lands to summon Weaver of Lightning and pass.

It had been two months since Millie had been to Radiant Garden, so, she decided to give it a visit... Of course, no one would recognize the now female Millie. Plus the added features of a cat(The ears and tail.) So she was met with a... Well, it wasn't odd, but surprising. That funky hair, it couldn't belong to anyone else.

Yugi Moto? The voice inside her head asked as she drew closer to try and make sure. She paused for a moment, her ears twitching as she picked up a small bit of conversation. She was hiding... Why was she hiding? It wasn't like she hadn't met other canon characters... But this felt different. What was it? Nostalgia? No... Maybe?

Yeah, that's Yugi... Millie thought back to Animus. Her tail twitched...

Yugi had almost caught up to Brent's back when he spotted the girl staring at him.

The staring itself wasn't so very strange. Yugi's hair had gotten enough interesting looks at home; the high school staff had scrutinised it for quite a while until they'd been told that the style was entirely natural, and had soon seen that Yugi's early attempts to straighten it just made it look worse. The colour had been another matter entirely.

No, the interesting part was her appearance. For some reason, this girl had...

Cat ears...? Indeed, a pair of cat ears on her head, and a tail just visible behind her. Flicking about like a real cat's tail, so it certainly wasn't a costume piece.

Of course, Bastian was a purple-skinned fairy-ish kind of person, and they'd met with talking playing cards and a giant whale in their short time already. It shouldn't seem so strange, considering all of that.

Yugi shook his head, and carried on after Brent, while the Pharaoh trailed invisibly behind, brow furrowed more than usual.

Brent had also quite quickly spotted the cat-girl - even when they clearly did belong to the locale's one or more common species, Interferences were pretty easy to spot once you knew what to look for - but as Radiant Garden was something of a hub for most Interferences not on an adventure, he really didn't pay her much mind at the moment. Far as he was concerned, Brent had his hands full with Yugi, he didn't need another lost soul to explain everything to.

Instead, Brent led Yugi down to the Borough, and he didn't need to wait long for the Heartless to hit the field. It was just your basic Shadows and Soldiers - neither he nor Yugi were yet strong enough to catch the scent of the stronger guys yet - but there were a fair few of them: five each. Thankfully, Brent had been preparing.

"Look alive, you two! We got company!"

Brent's turn started again. He drew a card - Turn Aside. He played another Mountain, then tapped all three he had for three red mana to cast Make Mischief. With an explosive entrance, a red, horned, hellish-looking creature took to the field, immediately taking out one of the Shadows. The Weaver of Lightning, who had been silently following at Brent's side this whole time, then used the excess mana from the spell to cast a bolt of lightning that destroyed another Shadow.

It should be noted that Brent didn't take much time at all to do all of this - the whole process took no more than three seconds. Brent then ended his turn, and his creatures took up a defensive stance. With this, he could take out the remaining three Shadows, provided at least two of them attacked. Not hard to let happen.

His wish was granted - all three decided they wanted to attack the group. With barely a thought, the Weaver of Lightning and the Devil token jumped in the way of two of them, taking the hits and dealing it right back. Weaver had enough toughness to withstand the attack of his Shadow, but the Devil token took mutual destruction. This activated its effect - when it died, it exploded, taking both its opponent and the final Shadow with it.

The Soldiers, however, were not sitting idly. Three of them were also attacking. Two of them went for Brent; however, one of them got attacked and thrown in the air by a Claymore, one of the active attacking forces of the town's defense grid. Brent still took a metal foot to the face from the second one, though. The last one went after Yugi. It would be up to him or the Pharaoh to respond.

However, action from either Yugi or the Pharaoh were unneeded. An orb of light would slam into the Soldier and fling it against a wall, obliterating it on impact. The cat-girl from earlier would make her appearance with her hand raised.

Millie smiled a little. Last time she had fought Soldiers they had been so much stronger than her and needed multiple hits... Now? Well, clearly this is what happened to them now. "Need some help?"

Her eyes went to Brent for a moment, then to Yugi.

Millie, concentrate on the Heartless. Millie quickly tossed a potion to Brent, not sure if he really needed it but a kick to the face hurt.

Well, considering they'd already gone from ten to five in a space of a few seconds before she'd decided to show her face…

"Uh, thanks?" Yugi managed to spit out, glancing around the field at the chaos. Mostly that chaos was the after-effects of Brent's cards - the strange man with the monocular google (the monoggle?) was still here and there had just been a very large Christian devil running around.

But even with all that insanity there were Heartless left-

Yugi pulled the Hammer Staff from his back, ran forward, and struck the Soldier that had stepped on Brent's face as hard as he could.

Brent grabbed the Potion thrown at him, stowing it away for later. Soldier kicks hurt, sure, but it wasn't crippling, and he could put up with some pain.

His turn started again. His Lands untapped, recharging his mana base, and he drew Mercurial Geists. Playing the final Mountain in his hand, he tapped all his Lands to cast Reduce to Ashes on one of the two undamaged Soldiers. This caused it to be engulfed in flame, quickly burning it away to nothing. Weaver of Lightning's effect also triggered, destroying the Soldier Yugi had attacked.

Brent wasn't done yet. With just a thought, he sent Weaver to leave its defensive position and attack the remaining damaged Soldier, and the two went at it. Once again, Weaver of Lightning was able to survive the Soldier attempting to retaliate, and the Soldier was destroyed. That left one fresh, untouched Soldier to take care of.

Apparently deciding Brent was the easiest target out of the three, the Soldier performed its Cyclone attack at him. Brent was quick about pulling his new sword out of its scabbard in time to block this time, having forgotten about it last round. He pushed it back, leaving it wide open for one of the other two to finish it off.

Millie didn't really do much during the fight, only gaining one kill. Not that it mattered to her that much. This was after all letting the somewhat newer Interferences get some experience in fighting the Heartless that she could defeat.

She sighed as she watched the last Soldier be destroyed. Millie held no weapons in her hand, seeming to be an unarmed combatant. That wasn't neccesarily true, but she didn't really want to summon her sword. "Well, that's done. Anywaaay..." Millie's gaze went from Brent to Yugi... Then back to Brent. "What's your name? I'm Millie."

The cat-girl was being polite giving her name first and she already knew Yugi's name so, the only unknown factor was Brent.

It might've seemed polite to the girl - to Millie - but hardly so to Yugi, who frowned instantly the moment he was passed over.

She'd been staring at him before, so it didn't seem unlikely that she'd deemed him uninteresting or anything like that. So, did she, then, recognise him?

Which was now a very distinct possibility, even though he was fairly sure that cat-girls were never a thing in Domino. After all, Brent had presented the notion that actually, an entire other universe knew his name and face. Any - what was the name? - Externals apparently had a very high chance of straight-up recognising him.

Though, he would've thought that wouldn't discard the notion of a formal introduction.

…And did that mean Brent's world had cat-girls…?

The Pharaoh coughed.

Both Brent and the last Soldier (who hadn't been destroyed yet, its attack had only been blocked, not countered,) just awkwardly looked at Millie, then back at each other, then back at Millie, then back at each other, before finally the Soldier tried attacking Brent again and Brent just slashed it twice and destroyed it.

Sheathing his sword and mentally commanding the Weaver of Lightning back to his side, Brent finally turned towards Millie. "Brent Pierce, nice to meet you. I assume from your... for wont of a better term, unusual behavior towards him, you're already familiar with Yugi." He indicated the spiky-haired duelist as he said this. "I have to guess you're an External from that alone. Which begs the question: what the hell happened to turn you into a cat-girl?"

It was a pertinent question, considering anthros of any description were unheard of outside of fiction back home. That left only one explanation: the transformation from human to cat-girl had happened after her Interference had begun. And chances were, there was a story behind that.

She watched the small bout unfold between the Soldier and Brent. She had jumped a conclusion there, having decided the battle was done just by the fact that it had been one soldier left. Millie's ears twitched in a small bit of embarrassment as her face turned a light shade of red.

Millie was avoiding looking at Yugi for the most part, even though she was most interested in the duelist. "Uh, yeah, external..." Her eyes went to the tail and ears atop of her head and behind her. Well, explaining it shouldn't be too hard, right?

"One of my friends pulled a prank on me with a potion... I decided it had more benefits than draw backs..." Even if random kids would grab her tail and squeeze it enough that she nearly fall from pain... That went unsaid...

And she had heard something? Something like a cough? Millie looked around, looking for the source of the noise, the cat ears atop her head giving a small twitch every now and then, turning to listen more carefully in different directions.

No, no. Ignoring that last enemy to be offended by Millie was entirely Yugi's fault. The only way he was going to get better at defending himself was to actually do it, after all. That was how this game worked.

Which - you know - was still a very strange thing to consider.

In any case, that wasn't really important right now. Neither, really, were Millie's cat parts (though it was both reassuring and disappointing to know that, no, Brent's world didn't actually have them either). What was done was done, and even though nobody had gotten mortally wounded or anything…

I've gotta pay more attention, he thought to himself. If I don't do that - if I don't concentrate - then somebody's going to get…

I should've looked out for you, the Pharaoh muttered.

You shouldn't be doing anything. Yugi stepped forward, and jabbed his thumb in the direction of Merlin's house. "We should probably get going before more Heartless show up. It was…" he looked over at Millie, "…nice meeting you?"

More benefits than drawbacks. From being changed into a cat-girl. By a goddamn prank.

...You know what, considering Brent put up with being Dovahkiin for an alternate Skyrim with little to no explanation as to how or why, he couldn't really say anything against that.

He needed to get back to that soon, didn't he. Yeah...

As for Yugi's comment. "Yeah, you've got a point, we'd better keep-"

Suddenly, there was a giant flash of light and a warping sound centered around Brent, and he was thrown to the ground. Weaver of Lightning had disappeared as well, but other than being blinded, the other two Interferences were left unharmed. Brent got back up.

"Okay, what the hell was tha- what the...?" Brent looked over his arms as he noticed that his gear had spontaneously transformed. What had previously been a set of leather bracers engraved with gemstones and modified to hold a deck were now full-on gauntlets made of a surprisingly lightweight silver metal. The gauntlets themselves were thin around the hands, but thicker and more tech-heavy than the basic leather bracers had been farther up the forearms, featuring a computer display mounted on the left gauntlet just behind the deck case, whereas the right-hand gauntlet featured a rotating chamber of golf-ball-sized crystals arranged into three chamber wheels encircling the forearm. The feel under his hands also suggested the insides were lined with some form of fabric - which kind, he couldn't have told you, but it felt durable. And through all of that, Brent also noticed the gauntlets were impossibly light - he barely felt any weight from them.

Then he noticed his glasses had also changed. "Okay, the hell?" He took them off and looked them over, keeping them relatively close because nearsighted. The glasses were wildly different, with the lens frames resembling goggles more than anything else. They also seemed to be made out of a bronze- or gold-colored alloy - said color changed depending on how the light hit it.

Brent put his 'glasses' back on and turned to the other two. "Um... do either of you two have any idea what the hell just happened? Because I'm completely lost."

"Uh, yeah, ni-" The flash of bright light stung her eyes and she had to turn away. Goddamn. "The- the hell?" She asked when she turned back... The changes were clear to see after all. She didn't know what happened and the guy, Brent, now sported new gear. Millie didn't know the significance of the new stuff, but it had been better than he wore previously, to some degree.

"Maybe you should talk to Merlin about that?" Millie had at one point planned to go there, she after all never acquired a gummi-ship of her own and was currently using the one that had been given to her by Lance. Maybe she could upgrade the thing. "I was headed in that direction already, which is kinda why I had followed you guys." She seemed a little awkward... It had been a long time since she talked to a guy... Let alone a canon.

Yugi wasn't quite sure what to make of the whole scene, except to keep blinking and hope his vision would return to normal. Had… anything warranted that spontaneous upgrade? Had he played any of those Magic cards, or something? Or had somebody else…

The Pharaoh, behind him, cast his gaze around the Borough. Nobody as far as I can see, he relayed.

"Not a clue…" Yugi replied to Brent, and then turned to Millie. "Oh, Merlin? That's… the name of the guy who owns this house, isn't it?"

Yugi hadn't questioned it before, when Bastian had brought it up, but Merlin was another to add to the list of storybooks, after the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland, and Monstro from Pinocchio. It seemed a bit… odd, though, in the shadow of the looming clockwork castle. What was the medieval Merlin doing in a place like this?

"Yeah, he owns the house we're going to. And it would be a good idea to ask him about this, though I doubt I'll get much more than residual clues. As far as I know, Planeswalker magic is a bit out of his territory."

That said, Brent would take all the help he could get. First his MTG card collection getting added to and his deck being messed with, now someone or something was outright replacing his gear! Speaking of...

Brent pulled out his deck and looked through the cards. Immediately, he knew something was out of place. "Oh, come on, again!?" His deck had completely changed yet again, and with cards of a set whose symbol he didn't recognize. Brent put his deck back into its holding case on his new set of gauntlets, clearly miffed at these developments. "Okay, someone is clearly screwing with me. These changes are too controlled and purposeful to have been left to chance. Come on, you two. Yugi's got a ship to get fixed, and I've got some questions to get answered."

With that, Brent marched towards Merlin's house.

(OOC notes: Brent's deck has been updated with the Kaladesh set.)
